On the banks of the Dnipro lies one of the most beautiful cities in Europe — Kyiv. The capital of Ukraine has an interesting and rich history and at the same time is a modern industrial, scientific, and cultural center of our country.
The first mention of Kyiv in written sources dates back to the year 482. The capital of Ukraine has faced many different trials, but the city has managed to preserve its beauty and many historical monuments whose age goes far back into the depths of centuries.
Golden Gate, built as early as the 11th century during the reign of Yaroslav the Wise. At that time, it served a defensive function and was also the main entrance to the city. The masonry was made of stone, and the height of the preserved walls reaches 9.5 m. A museum is open in the restored building, where you can learn about the history and architectural features of the Golden Gate.
House with Chimeras — a true pearl of Kyiv in the Art Nouveau style, the exterior of which is decorated with numerous sculptures of strange animals and mythical creatures.
“House of the Weeping Widow”, built in 1908, got its name thanks to a mascaron in the shape of a woman’s face. When it rains, tears seem to flow from her eyes, and it appears as if the woman is crying.
St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral — a vivid example of Neo-Gothic architecture, founded in 1899. It is now used as the House of Chamber and Organ Music, where concerts are held.
Kyiv Pechersk Lavra — one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in Ukraine, which began its activity during the time of Yaroslav the Wise. The complex includes churches, towers, and underground man-made caves.
