There is a monument in Berdyansk which causes a smile only among the guests of the city, but not among town`s indigenous people. It is a monument to a pigfish breadwinner – a small fish, which is known to all connoisseurs of local sea delicacies. In difficult times for town residents, this fish capture literally became a salvation: inexpensive, but very useful, eating this fish brought to people not only required body energy, but also the necessary vitamins and fish oil. Immediately after the Second World War, when the city was not so developed industrially, it was mainly fishing that allowed town residents to earn money and buy food. In the beginning of 2000, local residents decided to perpetuate the fish. This idea was picked up at the mayor's office, and architects V. Myronenko and V. Mykhailov were invited to cooperate. Soon the monument was opened – nowadays, on the Seaside Square, many people want to make a photo with a fish on a frying pan.
