Before 1919, a male gymnasium was located within its walls, and in 1932 a teacher's institute was opened in the building, which later received the name of P. Osypenko. During the occupation, a military hospital operated here, which was burned down by the Nazis at the time of their retreat in autumn 1943.
Among the well-known graduates of the male gymnasium are Lieutenant P. Schmidt, creator of the vaccine against cholera and plague V. Khavkin.
