The building was erected in 1909 with funds provided by Feivel Taube, an influential resident of Belz who founded the “Yishre Lev” society to support the sick and those in need.
The structure served both as a prayer house and as a center for charitable activities of the Jewish community. It is located near the Market Square and is distinguished by its original architecture: a wooden bay window and a distinctive onion-shaped dome in an Oriental style, which gives the building a unique appearance.
During the First World War, the building suffered significant damage and was later reconstructed and restored with the support of the Rokach family. In the interwar period, it once again became an important place of religious and community life for the Jewish community of Belz.
Today, the “Yishre Lev” prayer house is a valuable architectural monument that preserves the memory of the city’s Jewish heritage, traditions of mutual assistance, and the spiritual life of the community that for centuries was an integral part of Belz’s history.
