Since 1990, the museum has been housed in the former Potocki Palace, built to the design of French architect Pierre Rico de Tirreggelli. The building harmoniously blends Baroque and Early Classical architectural styles, making it one of the region's most valuable historic landmarks.
Founded in 1980, the museum has assembled an impressive collection that now includes more than 8,500 primary exhibits and nearly 9,000 items in its scientific support collection. Highlights include Ukrainian icons from the 15th–18th centuries, historic liturgical vestments, religious vessels, embroidered church banners, ritual cloths and towels, early printed books from the brotherhood and monastic printing houses of Lviv, Zhovkva, and Pochaiv, as well as archival documents dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions dedicated to history, art, traditional crafts, cultural heritage, and contemporary events. Great care is devoted to preserving the collection, with professional conservators and restorers working to protect and restore these valuable artifacts.
A visit to the museum offers not only the opportunity to admire remarkable examples of sacred art but also to experience the atmosphere of a historic palace that is itself an important part of Galicia's cultural heritage.
