Between the two residential areas of the city of Kharkov - Pavlov Pole and the Nagorny District, there is a fairly large park based on the Sarzhin Yar spring. In essence, it is a beam, the length of which reaches 12 kilometers.
The history of the origin of the park dates back to the 18th century. In those days, the location of the park zone was the intersection of the Zolochevskaya road and the Sarzhinka river. Today it starts from a forest park and stretches to the Lopan River.
In the old days, a stream of the same name flowed along the bottom of Sarzhiny Yar, which was filled up in 2006. Currently, only a few fragments remain of the stream, and now most of the slopes of the yar in the central part of the city are actively built up with new high-rise buildings.
The park has a lot of attractions that attract the attention of both the local population and tourists. Between the upper part of the park and the Alekseevskaya gully lies the Pomeki nature reserve.
On the left side of the park is the Finnish Hill with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The main feature of this slide is its height, which allows you to go down from it on skis or sledges in the winter season. An old cable car, which was built in 1971, stretches through the park area.
On the same slope there is a temple of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy", built in 2010. It was built from natural wood in a pseudo-Russian architectural style.
In addition, there is a swimming pool, a large sports ground, and a play area for children in the park. You can relax in Sarzhin Yar at any time of the year. Many Kharkiv residents and guests of the city come here with whole families with children and friends for a picnic, photo session or just to relax in nature.
