The museum was opened in 1980 on the initiative of Zoya Vasylivna Sulska, a distinguished Ukrainian teacher, and received the title of “Folk Museum” in 1995.
The exhibition is located in eight halls and introduces visitors to the history of the region from ancient times to the present day. The museum presents examples of the local flora and fauna, archaeological finds, historical documents, tools, household items, and a unique ethnographic collection of Polissia, including traditional clothing, embroidered towels, carpets, wooden crafts, and weaving tools.
Separate exhibitions are dedicated to important events of the 20th century, including revolutions, the Holodomor, World War II, post-war reconstruction, and modern defenders of Ukraine. The exhibition hall also presents works by local craftsmen, artists, and photographers.
The Luhyny Folk Museum of Local History is a place where the historical memory of the region, Polissia traditions, and stories of the people who shaped its history are preserved.
