The monastic complex was founded in the second half of the 18th century at the initiative of Bishop Adam Stanisław Krasiński of Kamianets, who invited monks of the Capuchin Order to the town.
Construction of the monastery and church began in 1765 and continued for nearly twenty-five years. The church was consecrated in honor of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Stanislaus. After the monastery was dissolved by the Russian authorities in 1832, the complex was transferred to the local Orthodox community, while the former monastic buildings were used throughout the 19th century as a theological school, parish school, and other educational institutions.
During the Soviet era, the shrine underwent significant changes. The church served as a cinema, a sports hall, and a warehouse, while the monastery buildings were adapted for educational purposes. Following Ukraine's independence in 1991, the church was returned to the local religious community and restored to its original spiritual purpose.
The architectural ensemble includes the former church, a two-story monastic residence, the historic presbytery, and an inner courtyard with a chapel and a holy spring. Despite numerous reconstructions, the complex has preserved many features of Late Baroque architecture and remains one of the most valuable historical landmarks of Dunaivtsi.
Today, the Capuchin Monastery is an important historical and architectural monument of the Khmelnytskyi region, reflecting the rich spiritual heritage of Podillia and attracting visitors interested in history, culture, and sacred architecture.
