Khortytsya is the largest island not only on the Dnieper, but on all the rivers of Europe, 12 km long, 2.5 km wide. Its area is approximately 2,5 thousand hectares. According to scientists, it was created more than 2 million years ago as a result of a geological fault that split a piece of the Ukrainian crystal shield. There are more than a thousand species of plants, as many species of insects, two hundred species of birds, and two dozen species of mammals.
