The exposition of the museum consistently reveals the history of our region in the Cossack period through the eyes of T. Shevchenko, and also tells about the poet's stay in Pereyaslav area.
The exhibition opens with the halls united by the theme "Pereyaslav historical", introduces visitors to the era of victorious knights, courageous Cossack campaigns, struggle with external and internal enemies. The exposition presents a collection of Ukrainian, Polish, Russian arms of the XVII-XVIII centuries: Cossack tubes, powder items, the picture "Cossack Mamai" of the XVII century, Bogdan Khmelnitsky's unique portrait by an unknown artist of the XVII century, Cossack kalynods of the XVII century.
The next four halls of the exposition are memorial rooms: a drawing room, a guest room in which T. Shevchenko lived, a library and the office of doctor A. Kozachkovsky reproduce the interiors of the rooms of the XIX century, which helps to convey the spirit of the era in which Shevchenko lived and created.
The next three literary and art rooms tell about the Taras's training at the Petersburg Academy of Arts and show early works of the poet.
