The Klymentiy Sheptytsky Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life, better known as Shevchenkivskyi Hai (Shevchenko Grove), is one of the largest open-air museums in Ukraine. Located among the scenic hills of the Znesinnia Landscape Park in Lviv, the museum covers an area of more than 36 hectares.
The museum features 124 examples of traditional folk architecture, grouped into 54 authentic farmsteads representing the ethnographic regions of Western Ukraine, including Boykivshchyna, Lemkivshchyna, Hutsulshchyna, Bukovyna, Podillia, Lvivshchyna, and Zakarpattia. Visitors can explore traditional village houses, farm buildings, wooden churches, a school, a blacksmith's workshop, a watermill, a windmill, and thousands of everyday household artifacts.
One of the museum's highlights is the Church of the Holy Wisdom of God (1763), a remarkable wooden church relocated from the village of Kryvka. Considered one of the finest examples of Ukrainian wooden sacred architecture, its relocation to Lviv in 1930 marked the beginning of the museum's creation.
Opened to visitors in 1972, the museum has become not only a center for preserving Ukraine's cultural heritage but also a popular venue for festivals, traditional celebrations, craft fairs, exhibitions, and themed excursions. It is an ideal place to discover the history, traditions, and architecture of the Ukrainian countryside while enjoying peaceful walks surrounded by nature.
