Museum of the History of Ovruch Region

The Museum of the History of Ovruch Region is a local history, historical, and ethnographic museum dedicated to the centuries-old history of the Ovruch area, its nature, culture, and traditions.

Founded in 1975, the museum has become an important center for preserving the historical memory and cultural heritage of Polissia.

The museum's exhibition introduces visitors to the development of the region from ancient times to the present day. It features archaeological discoveries, including tools of prehistoric people, an ancient Rus sword from the 12th–13th centuries, Cossack weapons from the 18th century, coins, documents, historical photographs, and collections of minerals. Separate sections tell the stories of important events of the 20th century, including the lives of repressed local residents, the experiences of people during World War II, the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster, and the participation of Ovruch residents in modern historical events.

Special attention is given to the ethnography of Polissia. Visitors can see traditional Polissia clothing, embroidered towels, household items, wooden handicrafts, and other examples of folk culture. A special highlight is the recreated interior of a 19th-century rural house — the “Polissia Light Room” — which conveys the atmosphere of everyday life and traditions of local residents.

The museum also houses an art collection featuring sketches, Polissia landscapes, and portraits of local people donated by artist Anatolii Kostyuchenko. The museum's exhibitions continue to be enriched with new materials reflecting the history and contemporary life of the Ovruch region.

The Museum of the History of Ovruch Region is an interesting destination for anyone who wants to learn more about the past of the Drevlians' land, the traditions of Polissia, and the people who shaped the history of this region.
