It is part of the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve and was opened in 2006 on the site of important archaeological discoveries that confirmed Vyshhorod's significant role in the development of ancient pottery craftsmanship.
The museum's most valuable exhibit is an authentic 11th-century pottery kiln—the only surviving kiln from the extensive pottery production complex of ancient Vyshhorod. Archaeological research has shown that during the princely era, around 250–300 kilns operated here, producing ceramic vessels for everyday use, trade, and possibly for state taxation purposes.
The exhibition traces the development of ceramic production from the Neolithic period and the Trypillian culture through the era of Kyivan Rus and into modern times. Visitors can explore archaeological finds, ancient and contemporary pottery, products from the Mezhyhirya Faience Factory, dugout boats, traditional beehives, and other examples of Ukrainian folk heritage.
One of the museum's highlights is its working pottery wheel, where visitors can watch skilled potters at work and take part in traditional pottery workshops. It offers a unique opportunity to create a handmade clay item while discovering the ancient craft traditions that shaped Vyshhorod's history for centuries.
