A bridge under the project of Yevgeny Paton was constructed and opened more than a hundred years ago. It always had as great popularity as it connected the most visited parks in Kyiv, Mariinsky park and Khreshatik one. In the summer of 1983, the bridge was renewed, replaced with another one. It is interesting that the reconstruction lasted only 2 weeks, so many people still don’t know that this is no longer the original bridge designed by Paton.
It became the bridge for lovers because it offers spectacular views, both on the left side - on the center of Kyiv, and on the right side - the left bank of the city. In general, the bridge of lovers is a symbolic and unofficial name of many bridges around the world, which, by tradition, lovers and newlyweds decorate it with symbols of love - locks, ribbons and inscriptions. But not everyone likes it. For example, in Florence, 400 kilograms of iron locks were taken from such a bridge each year. The local mayor imposed a fine of 50 euros for hanging "love locks".
