The little-known village of Yaropovychi in the Zhytomyr region hides a unique historical monument—a wooden palace in the Ukrainian Baroque style.
It once belonged to Sigismund Katyuzhynskyi, who owned the estate in the mid-19th century and built a sugar factory on these lands. After his bankruptcy, the estate passed to creditors, and later it was repurposed as a school, which operated until 2008.
The building has miraculously survived to this day. It is impressive not only for its architecture but also for its advanced technical innovations for its time, including a sewage system, heating, and underfloor heating. There are now plans to establish a local history museum here. Finding this historical gem is not easy—it’s best to ask local residents, who refer to it as the "old wooden school."
