Osip Gladky went to Odesa, where he became acquainted with the Cossacks of the Platnirivsky Kuren, subsequently becoming their courteous ataman, and two years later – the ataman of the Zadunayska Sich. Having crossed with his Cossacks to the service of Emperor Nicholas I and the Russian army, Osip Gladky participated in the war against the Ottoman Empire, he descended from the well-deserved fame of the talented commander and was comprehensively encouraged personally by Nicholas, in particular, having obtained the title of nobleman.
