Viknyna lake

In the village of Khropotova, Khmelnytskyi region, there’s a mysterious lake called Viknyna.

It never freezes, even in harsh winters — the water stays at +13 to +15°C. In winter, mist rises as if the lake is breathing.

Locals call it the “ghost lake” and share eerie legends. One tells of a man and horses who fell through the ice and vanished — later, the horses were said to be found in another village. Some believe there’s a gateway to another world at the bottom.

Despite its spooky reputation, the lake draws visitors, especially in autumn, when fog and bare trees create a perfect Halloween setting.
