Stone Kremenetsky castle on the site of the ancient Russian settlement appeared in the XII century. on top of the Castle Hill (Bona).
In the XV century, by order of Vitovt, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, he was fortified with defense walls. The flourishing of the Kremenetsky castle is associated with the name of the Neapolitan princess Bona Sforza, wife of the Polish king Sigismund I, who presented her with Kremenets in 1536. A relative of the Roman emperor, Bona strengthened the castle, which had three towers, high walls and a garrison armed with guns. The castle courtyard housed the barracks, the powder magazine, the siege well (80 m) and the palace, which Bona turned into a luxurious residence. Although there is no reliable information about the presence of Queen Bona in Kremenets, but from that time there are legends about her beauty, temperament, sophistication in intrigues, but also about extreme cruelty. In 1648, the Kremenetsky castle was taken by storm and completely destroyed by the Cossack detachment of M. Krivonos. Preserved tower with gates and defensive walls. Excursions are conducted by employees of the Kremenets-Pochayevsky State Historical and Cultural Reserve.
