For a long time, it served as the center of a large parish that included several nearby villages.
After the Bolsheviks took over the area, the church faced numerous challenges: due to its religious and Polish affiliation, it became a target of hostility from the occupying authorities. It was closed, repurposed as a grain storage facility, and later converted into a warehouse for agricultural chemicals.
Only after the country gained independence was the church returned to the faithful. Thanks to the efforts of Fr. Wladyslaw Vanags, the sanctuary was restored, although its rich architectural decor could not be recreated due to high costs and a lack of skilled craftsmen.
