Initially, on the site of ancient settlement there was a castle of Moldavian master Duca, whom Turkish Sultan then appointed as a governor of the Right-Bank Ukraine. Later Duka, known for his cruelty, was expelled from Ukraine. In 1764 the castle was demolished and the Church of Nativity was built. The plateau in front of the church offers a breathtaking view of the valley of the Pivdennyy Bug with cascading rapids.
