Spring is the perfect time to escape the city hustle and enjoy a picnic in the fresh air. The scent of blooming gardens, warm sunshine, breathtaking views – and, best of all, you don’t need to travel thousands of kilometers for this kind of getaway! We’ve prepared a selection of Ukraine’s most charming locations where a spring picnic will delight the soul.

1. Sofiyivsky Park (Uman)

Romantic alleys, historic pavilions, and crystal-clear ponds surrounded by weeping willows. In May, tulips and magnolias bloom here. Besides having a picnic, you can rent a boat near the Flora Pavilion and take vibrant photos by the fountain. The best picnic spot is near the greenhouse.

2. Holosiivskyi Forest (Kyiv)

An ideal place for a family outing: a pine forest, air filled with the fresh scent of needles, and designated picnic areas with benches and tables. For active visitors, there are numerous walking and jogging trails, cycling routes, and even small ponds where you can take a boat ride.

3. Lake Synevyr (Carpathians)

Dense fir forests surround Ukraine’s deepest lake. In spring, you can hear birds singing in Synevyr National Park. Enjoy a picnic combined with kayaking on the Vicha River or a scenic walk around the lake. If lucky, you might spot deer or a bear in the nearby nature reserve.
To get there, take a train to Mukachevo and take a bus to the village of Synevyrska Polyana.

4. Alexandria Park (Bila Tserkva)

Blooming magnolias, historic gazebos, and waterfalls – this place is rich in history and has a unique atmosphere. Find the "Echo Pavilion" – your words will sound like music. The park offers many scenic picnic spots, and after your meal, you can stroll along the riverside or visit the local arboretum.

5. Trukhaniv Island (Kyiv)

This island features beaches, cycling paths (bikes available for rent), and a mix of active and relaxing outdoor experiences. Bring a ball or a badminton set – the location is perfect for games. If you’re looking for a more secluded spot, head deeper into the forest.
How to get there: Walk from Poshtova Ploshcha metro station via the Parkovy Bridge.

6. Vynohradiv Hills (Zakarpattia)

Stunning panoramas, blooming meadows, and a picturesque view of the Tysa River – a paradise for photographers. Be sure to visit the buffalo farm in the village of Oreshnyk (near Vynohradiv) and try their natural cheeses – they’re incredibly delicious!
To get there, take a train to Vynohradiv and then take a car to the villages of Chorna Hora or Velyka Kopanya.

7. Dnister Canyon (Ternopil Region)

Untamed nature, cliffs, and a turquoise river that can be admired from scenic viewpoints – the landscapes here are breathtaking! You can set up tents or rent a house nearby. There are also cafés and restaurants where you can grab a meal and find the perfect picnic spot with a view of nature.
How to get there: Take the Ternopil–Borshchiv highway towards the village of Zalishchyky.

8. Old Fortress & Smotrych Canyon (Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi Region)

Visit the picturesque Smotrych River canyon, surrounded by cliffs and greenery, and explore the legendary medieval fortress – a UNESCO site. In spring, wildflowers bloom here, and the fortress walls offer stunning views. It’s perfect for a picnic with a historical ambiance!
HToget there: Take a train or bus from Kyiv to Kamianets-Podilskyi (~5 hours), then walk or take a taxi to the fortress.

9. Kyivan Rus Park (Kopachiv Village)

This is a fantastic destination for active family recreation! Immerse yourself in a medieval atmosphere, take archery and pottery workshops, and enjoy various other activities. Check with the park staff for the latest schedule. There are also great picnic spots to relax and soak in the historic ambiance.
How to get there: Take the Kyiv–Obukhiv highway (30 minutes from the capital).

10. Khortytsia Island (Zaporizhzhia)

Here, you can see the famous Khortytsia Oak, explore historical sites, and admire stunning views of the Dnipro River from Glory Hill. The island is covered in spring with blooming sage, creating a magical atmosphere. The best picnic spot is on Tourist Beach, the only place on the island where camping and bonfires are allowed.
How to get there: From central Zaporizhzhia, take buses No. 46, 50, or a taxi.
